Hurricane Helene unleashed a geomorphic catastrophe across East Tennessee and Western North and South Carolina, leaving unimaginable destruction in its wake. Communities in Mitchell, Yancey, and Avery County North Carolina are in dire need of assistance. With wind gusts that reached up to 106 mph at Mt. Mitchell, the hurricane left a trail of significant wind damage across the Southeastern U.S., particularly in the mountainous regions. Persistent high-speed winds, combined with saturated soils from previous days of rain, caused widespread tree fall, severe structural damage or complete decimation. On the southeast-facing slopes, the shifting winds caused trees to fall in multiple directions, devastating both natural landscapes and homes.
Families were caught off guard as power outages left them in the dark, unaware of the storm’s magnitude or the rapidly changing dangers. Alone and disconnected, they were forced to react to life-threatening conditions within minutes. Entire neighborhoods remain uninhabitable, with 1,800 landslides, 6,000+ miles of destroyed roads, 1,000+ damaged bridges, and 126,000 homes affected. The storm caused over $56 billion in damages, leaving these communities struggling to recover.
100% of your contributions go directly to relief efforts in these hardest-hit areas.
Winter has added new urgency to the crisis. Families who lost everything are still living in tents, RVs, and tiny homes, battling freezing temperatures and high wind gusts. As we pass the second month volunteer efforts are stretched thin due to worsening weather. Survival depends on a steady supply of heating resources such as gas, propane, and kerosene to make it though the winter. Building supplies are needed to repair damaged homes and other living structures to include deliveries of critical supplies.
To combat this geomorphic catastrophe, we urgently need your help to:
– Provide propane, gas, and kerosene to heat RVs, power generators, and warm homes.
– Deliver building materials to repair structures and winterize living spaces.
– Fund lifesaving efforts to move families out of tents and into safe, heated shelters.
While food and water supplies are stable, donations are critical for fuel and rebuilding materials. Every dollar you contribute directly aids recovery efforts, ensuring families survive the harsh winter and begin to rebuild their lives.
Your donation is a lifeline for families in Mitchell, Yancey, and Avery County North Carolina who need fuel, shelter, and hope to survive the coming months.

I have held treasures, then watched them fade,
Fingers gripping memories time cannot save.
I have seen the fragile, the young and old,
Cross the veil to a silence cold.
–
I know pain like a shadowed tide,
Its ebb and flow carving wounds inside.
I have faced death, its chilling stare,
Yet walked away with breath to spare.
–
Let us not falter, though storms may roar,
For life is the gift we must fight for.
Keep them proud to rise, to strive, to try—
Proud to live, not proud to die.
–
In every loss, a whisper remains:
Live for the light that outlasts the pain.
